He likes to remind people he was born ‘in a bowl of milk’, to a family of producers. He remembers himself selling cheese on the market when he was younger. After working for Bresse Bleu, brought by Bongrain, Erick Pouillé created univers-fromages.com in 2006. ‘At the time, there was no other independent site for cheese, apart from institutional sites of big companies. I therefore created the site to defend the heritage of raw milk and farmhouse cheeses.’ Seven years later, he now caters to the general public as well as to professionals, and mentions 1,200 producers, 1,400 cheeses and just as many recipes on his website.
Univers-fromages also has a training school for cheesemongers who wish to learn how to cut cheeses etc.
